It's another sign that spring is on the way: today marks the
beginning of the NCAA Division I baseball season. That means that 25 of the 32
players on the HarbourCats roster are suiting up in a meaningful game for
the first time this year. The only HarbourCat who is still waiting for opening
day is pitcher Connor Russell of the Vancouver Island Baseball Institute,
and he'll have to wait until March 2nd before he can take to the hill.
Two HarbourCats who will be playing prominent roles on their
respective Division I teams are Anthony Hermelyn and Alex Real. Hermelyn's
Oklahoma Sooners take on Hofstra University in a four-game series this weekend,
while Real's UNM Lobos will play a three-game set against Oklahoma State.
Of course, we'll be providing regular updates on the HarbourCats
between now and the start of the West Coast League season on June 5th. Next
week we'll debut two regular features that will each highlight a team that
is a key supplier of talent to the Victoria HarbourCats. Stay tuned...
