An angelic relief outing saves the day

Sean Watkins
It was the best of times, it was the worst of times…

Chuck said it best, so I’ll try not to mangle his fine words. But in all seriousness, the HarbourCats’ season has been a roller coaster ride. The latest low was erased by Friday night’s exciting 9-8 win over the Medford Rogues.

The evening opened with a barrage of hits. Nathan Lukes, Gabe Clark and Sean Watkins all homered in the first two innings to stake the ‘Cats to an early 8-4 lead. While that kind of lead would seem insurmountable to most fans, those in the know were worried.

Thankfully, Angel Delgado was at his best. The newest member of the HarbourCats bullpen threw four solid shutout innings to turn the tide in the game. Ryan Keller did his best to make the game close, but DH/Superman Sean Watkins came out of the pen to nail down the save and preserve the HarbourCats’ victory.

Let’s hope that Watkins will continue to see time on hill and that Preston Ryan will recover from his 109-pitch relief outing and be given more late-inning save opportunities. Now if Quintin Torres-Costa could only get some chances in the late innings then the Victoria bullpen might actually turn the corner. If we are to have any chance of making the playoffs then we'll need everyone in the pen to pull up their socks, so let's hope that happens...
